The Austin 100: A SXSW 2016 Mix

The Austin 100: A SXSW 2016 Mix

For NPR Music to get ready for SXSW 2016, they listened to more than 1,800 artists, and hand-picked 100 songs for the musicians that they will be keeping an eye on at the South by Southwest Music Festival here in Austin this month.

Article and Playlist

This article by Stephen Thompson of NPR Music includes the complete playlist with artist links and the ability to play each song, if you want to just browse through the list. However, I think you will like trying out their interactive web app (see below).

The Austin 100: A SXSW 2016 Mix

Interactive Web App

A really cool feature is a fully interactive multimedia web application. For each one, there is information about the artist and song, with hometown and brief description. There are links to download the MP3 song, stream that artist on Spotify, or access iTunes or Amazon music stores

It offers shuffle play of all 100 songs, including the ability to pause, as well as skip forward or backward. You can click the heart to mark specific songs as a favorite, and you can later just click on a button to play your favorites. That makes it extremely easy to skim through all the songs and pick those that you like (and eliminate those you don’t).

Launch the The Austin 100 App (2016) by NPR Music.

This Austin 100 app will continue to be available for another year until March 31, 2017.

Download all 100 MP3s

Also there is a download available with all 100 MP3 songs as a single 852 MB zip file (over 6 hours of music), which will only be available this month only until March 31, 2016. If you like, you can choose to import any or all of these MP3 files into iTunes and made a playlist for it.

Download The Austin 100 Zip file – 100 MP3 songs (851.9 MB).

What is the Middle Biscuit? Literally speaking, it is the warm, highly-coveted, center, perfect biscuit my brothers and I fought over when our Mom set down a pan of her homemade fare. Figuratively, the middle biscuit is a symbol representing any thing that is elite compared to those that surround it. Tune in weekly to feast on what I consider middle biscuit tracks and middle biscuit artists from the massive universe of indie-pop-rock. Mostly new stuff, sometimes classic, either way, you’ll get your fill.
