Listen to the top 100 songs that I played on Spotify during 2018.
They recently sent me an email which highlighted my 2018 music. I love a wide variety of music from many genres and artists, but you probably already knew that, if you have followed my blog over the past 4 years. In fact, Spotify called me “adventurous” because I listened to “non-mainstream” artists 159% more than the average Spotify user. I also included my top songs for 2017 and 2016.
Enjoy the following custom playlist Spotify created for me with the 100 songs that I loved most this year, all wrapped up.
Here are various summaries they provided that reflect my Spotify listening history during 2018. Very interesting!
Even with all the newfangled music coming out, I still found time for oldies like this.
Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo on Mascagni:Cavalleria Rusticana (Remastered) (1953) by Renato Cellini
To broaden my horizons in 2019, Spotify created this playlist of songs from genres and artists I don’t usually explore.
Listen to indie folk music by Handsome & Gretyl and Lullen on their new album A Brave Lament (Original Soundtrack).
This music was created for a short documentary film about grief & loss. Lullen is one of the side projects for Handsome (Brett), which he describes this way:
Lullen is a soft breath of soothing, seaborne melodies designed to mimic the calming, clearing effects of the sound of the ocean. Created with deep, warm felt piano and awash with deep reverberations, Lullen moves listeners to center, focus, and dream.
See my music post on Handsome & Gretyl for more albums, videos, and links. It will be updated with the new album.

The Middle Biscuit is a weekly SXSWfm specialty radio show stream, hosted by Elizabeth Spruiell on MixCloud, which focuses on indie/pop/rock music gems (about an hour long).
SXSWfm is the official internet radio stream of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival in Austin, Texas recently held from March 13-19, 2017. This is a great way to discover new music.
This is how Elizabeth describes her weekly show every Thursday at 12 & 6 CT.
What is the Middle Biscuit? Literally speaking, it is the warm, highly-coveted, center, perfect biscuit my brothers and I fought over when our Mom set down a pan of her homemade fare. Figuratively, the middle biscuit is a symbol representing any thing that is elite compared to those that surround it. Tune in weekly to feast on what I consider middle biscuit tracks and middle biscuit artists from the massive universe of indie-pop-rock. Mostly new stuff, sometimes classic, either way, you’ll get your fill.
Playing tracks by Bonny Doon, Father John Misty, Night Moves, Unlikely Friends, The Drums and more.
This episode includes the following artists and songs.

Listen to Americana music by Birds of Chicago on their new EP album American Flowers. Having relocated to Nashville, this contains a suite of songs that didn’t feel quite at home on their upcoming sprawling rock and roll circus of an album Love in Wartime to be released in April.
