Dixie Chicks

Here’s some country music from Dixie Chicks that you can listen to on Spotify.

I remember seeing the Dixie Chicks when they were just starting in Dallas, and they were fantastic live even back then. They were the entertainment for our annual IBM picnic, which I think was held at the Austin Ranch, one of the oldest dude ranches in Texas, just north of the DFW Airport in Grapevine.

Dixie Chicks have won 13 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for “Taking the Long Way” and “Not Ready to Make Nice” as a single from that album.  They became the top selling all-female band and biggest selling country group in the U.S. after selling over 30 million albums by 2013.

Their last three albums represent various collections on songs from the Dixie Chicks, but I have included them as well since some readers might like to listen to them, even though there’s some duplication with the original albums.

Since 2010 at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire have released several albums as the duo “Court Yard Hounds” without lead vocalist Natalie Maines, although they have continued to tour as the Dixie Chicks with the Eagles and Keith Urban.

Here are some of their most popular songs.

“Not Ready To Make Nice” by Dixie Chicks on “The Essential Dixie Chicks” (2010)

“Cowboy Take Me Away” by Dixie Chicks on “Fly” (1999)

“Travelin’ Soldier” by Dixie Chicks on “Home” (2002)

Conspirare

Conspirare

Listen to wonderful choral music from Conspirare.

Conspirare is a vocal ensemble known for delivering uniquely beautiful and transformative musical experiences. Their name comes from Latin (“con” + “spirare”) which means “to breathe together”. They have been been nominated for six Grammys and recently won Best Choral Performance for Sacred Spirit of Russia at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

Their web site says: “Inspired by the power of music to change lives, Conspirare engages audiences in extraordinary musical experiences through world-class choral performances and recordings.” More information about them is available at their web site.

If you have never heard them before, listen to what you have been missing. See them perform if you get the chance. We enjoy attending their concerts here in Austin every year. They are simply fantastic!

George Winston

Here’s some piano music from George Winston that you can listen to on Spotify.

I have been lucky to see him perform several times in Dallas, his music is great, and watching him play is amazing. I need to see him again when he comes to the One World Theatre in Austin for concerts on February 18-19. He plays over 100 solo concerts a year featuring a variety of styles, including melodic folk piano, New Orleans R&B piano, and stride piano. Check out his US concert schedule, which includes 12 states from October through February.

Here are some of his most popular songs.

“Variations on the Kanon” by George Winston on “December” (1982)

Here is some harp music by Andreas Vollenweider for you to enjoy on Spotify.

He invented his unique electro-acoustic harp.  I had the wonderful opportunity to see him perform twice; I think it was first at the Granada Theater and later at the Majestic Theater in Dallas, but it was quite a while ago.  He won a Grammy award for the first one, “Down to the Moon”, and I also included a live video of the title song at the end.

Here are some of his most popular songs.

“Hands and Clouds” by Andreas Vollenweider on “Behind the Gardens: Behind the Wall: Under the Tree” (2009)

“Stella” by Andreas Vollenweider on “Cosmopoly” (1999)
