Overview

Drafts is a quick-capture note app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. It allows you to create drafts from anywhere with flexible actions to process that captured text.
Drafts is free to use, with unlimited ability to create, edit and sync drafts, and run actions installed with the app or from the Drafts Directory.
You can download Drafts from the Mac or iOS App Store. It’s worthwhile to consider the additional benefits available with a Pro subscription.
Drafts syncs all your documents and actions to iCloud so you can work across your devices: Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch (including dictation).
Follow these Setup instructions: define an Obsidian action group, install Add to Obsidian action, and customize your workspace settings.
Features
Drafts provides unique windows on each platform that enable you to capture text and actions to process your drafts.
Windows
Drafts provides several window options to create new drafts on macOS, iOS, or Apple Watch. The main window offers all the options, whereas the quick capture window is simple and fast.
You use workspaces to customize your window view layout and settings.
Capture
There are many ways to capture text to create a new draft.
Actions
Actions provide one-click access for common tasks that process your drafts with various apps.
Actions are organized into Action Groups, which are available in the Action List and Action Bar.
I use a special action group and action to create Obsidian notes with Drafts using a folder bookmark.
Action steps
There are several Drafts action steps that are available to create Obsidian notes.
- URL (or Callback URL) using Obsidian URL schemes
- File action using Drafts Folder Bookmarks
- Run shortcut using actions provided by apps
Workflow
These are typical workflows that you can use for both Drafts and Obsidian.

Obsidian

Why would I just not write in Obsidian directly? Thanks for your wonderful blog btw.
Of course, you can always write directly into Obsidian. However, It’s usually better to capture ideas and thoughts quickly in Drafts, and then move to Obsidian when appropriate. This is much more efficient on your iPhone, where voice dictation makes it so easy to capture stuff on the go without going into the Obsidian app.
That makes sense, I’ll check it out, especially on iPhone. I do find the Obsidian app quite hard to use on iOS as its not tailored at all to the platform (which is fair enough for a free app).
