Actions for Obsidian

The Actions for Obsidian app for macOS and iOS by Carlo Zottmann is the magic glue that integrates Obsidian with over 40 actions for Apple Shortcuts in automation workflows with other apps across my environment.

Automation Workflows

Obsidian, meet Automation Workflows …

The personal knowledge management tool Obsidian is great: versatile, powerful, highly configurable, with a friendly and active community. But what it lacks is deep integration with macOS/iOS and Apple’s automation ecosystem.

Actions for Obsidian makes Obsidian a first-class citizen in the Shortcuts app.

Introduction

This quick introduction shows how you can easily create a daily note using a template that includes weather conditions, upcoming calendar events, journal entries, and task (to-do) actions.

LYT Conference

Watch this great video by Carlo Zottmann from the LYT Conference 2023 sessions with Nick Milo (50 min).

He discusses his project with Nick Milo, explains how Actions for Shortcuts works, and shows how to:

  1. capture a text selection, URL, and name of a Safari browser web page and save it in an Obsidian note Web Pages to Check Out.
  2. capture a thought with a text prompt that’s added to the Today section of a Daily Note in Obsidian (without using Drafts).
  3. create meeting notes for tomorrow’s calendar events and linking them in a daily note.

This triggered my interest in exploring how I could use Actions for Shortcuts to integrate Obsidian with other apps within my macOS and iOS environment via Shortcuts (and Siri).
